Good for the Soul
In an age of fewer major record labels and music fans increasingly turning to the Internet to find the next big thing, independent artists need more help than ever to get themselves heard in an increasingly crowded marketplace.
Make It Happen Entertainment supports independent artists by doing the booking and promotion work that major labels used to.
The Internet is key to getting the word out about new artists, MIHE President Danny Brookings, AKA D.J. Dan C.E., says.
MIHE uses Twitter, MySpace and Facebook (Make It Happen Entertainment) to promote the dozens of independent singers, rappers and musicians it works with. And those are only some of at least 10 Internet platforms and tools MIHE employs to spotlight artists, mainly in the soul and hip-hop genres, who have yet to get the notice of the major labels or mainstream radio.
MIHE produces a weekly Internet radio show featuring independent musicians. This coming year, MIHE will be increasing its use of one its blogs to further the introduction of new acts to music lovers and the interaction between the fans and the music. Visitors to the site can listen to clips of music by artists, find out where they can see the artists perform and vote on their favorites.
This year’s top vote-getter among listeners to MIHE’s radio show was the jazz- and dance-infused Promised Land by J-Rod Indigo.
Brookings spoke with me about music and what drives his passion for the underground scene during a recent episode of my radio show, “Good for the Soul.” Take a listen:
